Outline of 2 Corinthians 5

V.1-8 The Greatest Transformation

V.9-16 The Greatest Motivation

V.17  The Greatest Creation

V.18-21 The Greatest Transaction

1. The Greatest Person

2 Cor. 5:18 "And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;"

God as the Creator of all things;

He can change man's heart, soul, and life;

Salvation is the work of God who alone.

2. The Greatest Problem

2 Cor. 5:18 "And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;"

Why is there the need for reconciliation?

There must be alienation and animosity - between God and man;

The problem is essentially, "How can sinful humans and Holy God come together?"

Ephesians 2:1-3

Man is alienated from God. He has no love for Him; He disliked God's laws.

He is unwilling to be restrained. He seeks his own pleasure.

A change is needed so that one who is alienated should be brought to peace and friendship.

The Doctrine of the Imputation

"The problem with the human race is not most deeply that everybody does various kinds of sins-those sins are real, they are huge and they are enough to condemn us. But the deepest problem is that behind all our depravity and all our guilt and all our sinning, there is a deep mysterious connection with Adam whose sin became our sin and whose judgment became our judgment."  ~ John Piper ~

3. The Greatest Proposal

2 Cor. 5:19 "To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation."

Here is God's plan of reconciliation - the whole plan of redemption;

Christ to be the Mediator by which to accomplish the great work of reconciliation.

2 Cor. 5:19 "To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation."

Here is God's plan of reconciliation - the whole plan of redemption;

Christ to be the Mediator by which to accomplish the great work of reconciliation.

4. The Greatest Price

2 Cor. 5:21 "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."

The imputation of the guilt of all our sins to Him.

Not to know sin is the same as to be conscious of innocence; so to be conscious of nothing against one's self, is the same as to be unimpeachable.

2 Corinthians 5:21 "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."

The phrase "knew no sin" is an expression of great beauty and dignity.

It indicates his entire and perfect purity.

His whole life was perfectly pure and holy in the sight of God.

"He was altogether unacquainted with sin; He was a stranger to transgression; He was conscious of no sin; He committed none."~ Albert Barnes ~

Isaiah 53:5 "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

The price of our liberation has been rendered to God...Jesus the Son of God.

There is nothing left undone and God is absolutely satisfied.

The whole work of redemption is completed, and the price paid and nothing more is needed.

Conclusion

2 Cor. 5:20 "Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God."

The greatest need of the hour is be right with God!

Come on His terms not yours - because you are the offending party.
