Pictures of Love

.     "Storge" - Parents and child. Feeling of fondness; face to face;

.     "Philia" -  Friend with friend...both interested in the same things; Standing shoulder to shoulder;

.     "Eros" - Couples in Romantic love. Body to body.

.     "Agape" - God's kind of love, is a deliberate choice to act for the best interests of another person. Heart to heart!

1. The persistence of God's love

.     1 Cor. 13:7 "Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things."

.     John 13:1 "...having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end."

.     Jeremiah 31:3 "The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee."

.     1 Corinthians 13:8  "Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away."

The point Paul is making here:

Love never falls away and disappears; it never quits; it is never used up; love keeps on coming; the more you use it the more there is!

2. The permanence of God's love

.     1 Cor. 13:8 "Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away."

.     "Faileth" - a final falling, as a flower withers and dies;

.     "Prophecy" and "knowledge" will be stopped by something from outside;

.     "Tongues" will stop by itself...out of life.

.     "Love is immortal as part of the heavenly life, where tongues, prophecies and human knowledge shall be superseded." ~Teacher ~

.     "He (Paul) is anticipating the end of life, the dawning of a new day when the morning will break and every shadow will flee away; all the imperfection of life will come to an end, and love will stand face to face with love."

3. The practice of God's love

.     Gifts are designed to lead you to true and godlike love.

.     To focus on gifts and forget the end to which they lead is foolish and hurtful and destructive.

.     To learn to love is to achieve the absolute, paramount value of the entire universe- to become like God.

.     Matthew 5:48 "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."

.     Matthew 22:37  "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind."

.     John 15:12 "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you."

.     "Our showing love, practicing love, living love now are of utmost importance, more important than having any of the other virtues or gifts, because love is the link God gives us with His eternal Self."~ John MacArthur ~
