Evidences of Christ's Resurrection

1.   According to the Scriptures (v.3,4);

2.   According to the Eye- Witnesses (v.5-8);

3.   According to the Personal Testimony of Paul (v.9-11).

Acts 1:3

"To whom also He (Jesus) shewed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:"

Comments by Albert Barnes

"It was most in accordance with the principles of true philosophy, however, to establish the fact at once, and to argue from that, and thus to meet all the difficulties at once. The doctrine of the resurrection, therefore, does not rest on a metaphysical subtilty; it does not depend on human reasoning; it does not depend on analogy; it rests just as the sciences of astronomy, chemistry, anatomy, botany, and natural philosophy do, on well ascertained facts..."

Introduction

"The resurrection was foundational to the church, foundational to Christian teaching, foundational to our future hope, foundational to the teaching of the apostles, and foundational to the future ministry of the body of Christ." ~Unknown~

1. Christ is Lifeless

1 Cor. 15:12,13 "Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead...But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:"

There are those who thought the resurrection is an impossibility (cf. Acts 17:32; 26:8).

They believe that the Christian faith is for this life only, without any hope of a future beyond the grave.

2. Our Preaching is Worthless

1 Cor. 15:14 "And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain."

They declared Jesus of Nazareth was the Son of God, He died and was buried, and He rose again;

Not one of them ever withdrew his testimony concerning Christ's resurrection.

They stood by it for they had known Him in life, and had been near Him in death.

3. Our Faith is Fruitless

1 Cor. 15:14 "And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain."

This is the faith that gives us comfort and peace; It has transformed our hearts and lives;

This faith leads us home to heaven, now must be abandoned as a sheer delusion;

The faithfuls would be fools...believed for nothing, lived for nothing, and died for nothing!

4. We are False Witnesses

1 Cor. 15:15 "Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not."

 If it be found that we have affirmed that which is not true of Christ...we are worst criminals;

Jesus Christ would be the greatest Imposter and Liar - for He said numerous times of been raised!

5. We are yet in our Sinfulness

1 Cor. 15:17 "And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins."

 The pardon of sin was connected with the belief of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus;

Christ has made not atonement for us and we are yet in our sins - under the power, guilt, and condemnation of them!

Sin continues to reign over Christ and over all men!

6. The Dead in Christ are Hopeless

1 Cor. 15:18 "Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished."

Their bodies are dissolved in the earth, finally decomposed and destroyed;

John 11:25,26 "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live...whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die."

7. We are of all Men most Miserable

1 Cor. 15:19 "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable."

They are deserving more pity, more pitiable.

They had exposed themselves to such a variety of dangers and trials.

Unless there is another life, they are the most miserable of all creatures...for they made themselves miserable already!

But We shall be Raised like Christ!

Job 19:26 "And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:"

Ezekiel 37:13 "And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,"

Daniel 12:2 "And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt."
